Which One’D You Rather Use, Mauritian?

“Mone check li lor internet”

vs.

“Mone check li online”

I know it means the same thing but to me, personally, saying “mone check li lor internet” translates to:

  1. I just found out about this internet thingy and my mind is still processing the awesomeness of what internet is.  WOW!, or
  2. Did you know you can find anything on the Internet? I mean absolutely everything (all said with wide eyes), or
  3. simply “NOOB ALERT!”

Then, “mone check li online”, either means:

  1. I spend my free time online.  I’m not a geek, but it’s okay if you think I’m one, or
  2. Being connected online is the best thing since sliced bread, or
  3. Hey, I was practically born on a keyboard and you bet I type faster than you and with one eye closed too! Beat that!

Somehow, my brain is stuck in gear when someone I know say, “I saw it on the internet…you wouldn’t believe the things I saw there…you gotta “check li lor internet…”

Which one would you rather use??

The distinction to me was always at the back of my mind but I never really acknowledged it until today when the person I was talking to said, “Mone check li lor internet”…

mo check li online. But sometimes when I speak to older people like grandparents, I tend to say that I`ve checked it on the internet. Like instead of saying “we are friends on Facebook” I would say “we befriended on the internet”. I think it makes more sense to them I guess.

I respect that!! Oh, and tell your sis that her perfume is awesome…she got on the bus (21 Goodlands) yesterday and I was in the back and seriously, it was like a breath of fresh air! :)

It depends… When i talk to my parents i always say i’ve seen things on the internet because it would be a real trouble for me to explain what “online” is to them… If ever i’m talking to people of my generation I usually say “check online” …
